Job Summary:
The Mechanical Engineer will design, develop, and test all aspects of mechanical systems, equipment, devices, and machinery, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Designs products such as engines, machines, instruments, controls, or robotics.
- Works with the Plant Manager and Assistant Plant Manager to create design sketches, layouts, and plans.
- Uses computer-assisted design Solidworks, a 3D CAD software system to create preliminary and detailed drawings of the product and analyze mechanical systems, components, and devices. This includes everything from engines and machinery to HVAC systems and robotics and for simulation purposes.
- Produces specifications for products and chooses raw materials and components to be used in production.
- Builds models and prototypes of the product and tests the designs.
- Conducts experiments and test to evaluate the performance of mechanical systems and ensure they meet safety and efficiency standards.
- Develops control systems and monitors production.
- Prepares detailed reports and documentation of designs, tests, and modifications, and present findings to management and clients.
- Investigates equipment failures or difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and recommend remedies.
- Analyze problems to see how mechanical and thermal devices might help solve a particular issue.
- Design and re-design mechanical and thermal devices or subsystems, using analysis and computer-aided design.
- Overseeing the manufacturing process for the device or unit.
- Analyzing the test results and changing the design or system as needed.
- Evaluating mechanical systems and products by designing and conducting research programs, applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials.
- Completing project's technical and financial feasibility studies.
- Maintaining and modifying equipment to ensure safety, reliability, and optimal performance.
- Documenting specifications, system narratives, and operational instructions.
- Ensuring compliance with the project's technical standards, relevant health and safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Manage projects using engineering principles and techniques.
- Consider the implications of issues such as cost, safety and time constraints.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions to improve functionality and reliability.
- Excellent mechanical and technical skills.
- Proficiency with computer assisted design Solidworks, 3D CAD design and product development software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey technical information clearly to non-engineers and stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment and work closely with management and clients to ensure project specifications are met and to facilitate the manufacturing process.
- Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to details.
- Experience with project scheduling tools and methodologies is preferred.
- Knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and their applications in automation is beneficial.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials science, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively.
Education and Experience:
- A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field is required.
- Five years of experience as a manufacturing mechanical engineer.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Must be able to access and inspect all areas of machinery, including but not limited to tights spaces and large heights.
