The Field Mechanic plays an essential role in maintaining equipment readiness, minimizing downtime, and supporting the overall health and reliability of the fleet. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to follow established processes while adhering to company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Repair and maintain rental equipment in accordance with OEM and company standards
- Remove and install parts, disassemble and assemble components as needed
- Access and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and databases to obtain diagnostic information, repair procedures, and parts necessary for maintenance and repairs
- Inspect, test and verify the proper operation of all repairs before returning equipment back to service
- Proactively inspect units for signs of wear or potential issues and address them to ensure proper operation and minimize downtime
- Complete all job-related documents, parts requests, and update work orders with labor and repair details promptly and accurately
- Communicate job progress to supervisor and customer as needed
- Ensure all company tools, equipment, and vehicles are properly maintained, clean, and in working order
- Maintain cleanliness of service bays, common areas, and workstations. Support overall branch appearance and readiness
- Assist with equipment washing, staging, and organization
- Complete all assigned training courses in a timely and proficient manner
- Work safely at all times, adhering to all company policies, procedures, and industry standards. Comply with federal, state, and local regulations regarding workplace and vehicle safety
- Follow established processes and procedures in day-to-day job functionality

- This position operates at professional construction field sites and/or construction shop environment requiring the ability to communicate verbally with others on site, in person and over the telephone, ability to read printed materials, signs, computer screens and directions, stamina to maintain attention despite interruptions, ability to lift, push, pull, carry, finger, handle or feel objects, supplies, tools, machinery and/or controls weighing up to 50 pounds and reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and/or ladders; balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift overhead, traverse around sites or shop or otherwise position one's self around the required work and safety requirements to navigating and perform activities on various construction sites in a safe manner.
- Travel is required, with the possibility of overnight stays, to support customer needs and operational demands
- Will be required to work on jobsites and operate vehicles, trailers, equipment, and other tools within local, state, and federal safety guidelines.
- Will be required to work outside, frequently for extended periods of time in all weather, including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
- While working, the employee might be exposed to various chemicals, vapors, pollutants, virus or other air-borne pathogens, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines and dust/debris.
- This is a full-time position. Occasional overtime and weekends may be required as job duties demand with prior approval.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Work Experience
- One year of heavy equipment repair experience required; three or more years preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Basic knowledge of equipment and tools, including their design, application, repair, and maintenance
- Basic knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, engines, undercarriage, and electrical
- Ability to handle assorted tools properly and safely
- Ability to safely lift 50lbs
- Ability to operate and test equipment such as Trucks, Wheel Loaders, Excavators, Scrappers, Bulldozers, Graders, Forklifts and Cranes
- Ability to understand detailed technical schematics, owner manuals, and product warning labels
- Flexibility to adapt to changing needs on an active jobsite
- Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and efficiently
- Must possess solid written and verbal communication skills and be able to perform basic computer operations
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Must have a valid driver's license and a clean motor vehicle record
- Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or ability to obtain one
- MSHA certification preferred
- Must own required tools necessary for equipment repairs
