  • Richardson, TX and Tempe, AZ
  • Candidates hired in these locations are considered hybrid employees and will spend a portion of their time working in the office (currently 4-5 days per month, but subject to change)
Compensation We offer a great compensation package:
  • Salary range is $55,029 - $92,992, depending on geographic location and experience

Responsibilities: If you are looking to join a team committed to assisting State Farm agents and their customers, the Underwriter position in the Life Underwriting division may be your answer! Underwriters are expected to learn various insurance coverages and contracts along with State Farm philosophy and procedures to make underwriting decisions within authority. Our Underwriters are flexible regarding placement into a specific line of business and must be able to successfully complete training in order to provide a remarkable customer experience by demonstrating the following skills:
  • Analyze and review lines of business to develop recommendations and assist our agents with achieving a profitable book of business
  • Serves as a resource to our agents in support of company programs including loss mitigation, loss control and marketing opportunities
  • Responsible for proper pricing, placement and termination of risk within assigned levels of authority as well as acceptance continuation
  • Communicates clearly and professionally through remarkable customer service skills
  • Handles multiple computer applications while maintaining quality records in a fast-paced collaborative team environment
  • Bachelor's degree is strongly preferred

Key responsibilities include:
  • Review, process, and make decisions regarding Life insurance applications using risk-assessment tools in accordance with underwriting procedures, guidelines, and legislative requirements
  • Make quality decisions in a timely manner to assign proper underwriting risk classification
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge in handling complex Life underwriting cases with minimal supervision
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with various internal and external contacts
  • Serve as a technical resource for agency personnel
  • Build a working knowledge of medical and non-medical risk factors and technical skills
  • Perform risk selection within assigned retention limits/authority guidelines
  • Build a working knowledge of Life/Health insurance products and compliance issues
  • Manage special projects, as assigned
  • Review underwriting processes and make recommendations for improvement
  • Manage multiple computer applications while maintaining quality records in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment
  • Mentor and train others
Incumbency: This position will have a 12-month incumbency period (beginning on the effective date of the position) which must be met before the employee can post for any other State Farm position. The incumbency period does not affect the at-will relationship between State Farm and the employee and does not create an employment contract, nor contractual rights Additional Details:
  • Full-time work schedules are 38:45 hours per week, eligible for over-time pay for time worked over 40 hours
  • Schedules may include Saturdays, on occasion.
  • Overtime expected when needed
Qualifications: We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
  • Have experience reviewing/analyzing medical records
  • Bachelor's degree (preferred)
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiar working with Microsoft Teams, Outlook and OneNote
  • Regular and reliable internet connection/speed. At least 15 Mbps or higher download speed and 5Mbps or higher upload speed
  • Ability to work in a virtual environment.
  • Ability to efficiently make quality decisions with limited information
  • Learning agility
  • Strong customer focus
  • Utilizing resources to maintain regulatory compliance
